I have spent the past couple of decades in ministry learning there is no substitute for spending time with God in prayer, reading and studying His Word, and evaluating life with the help of His Spirit. Growing and maturing spiritually takes work and dedication, and at times doesn’t come naturally. Some time ago while I was thinking about all the hours I have spent reading and journaling and praying with God I began to see it like being at a spiritual workbench, and began thinking about what it is like to be living as a disciple or apprentice all the time, or as much as I can. The Abiding Workbench is a place meant for encouraging us all to live in the place of constant learning, growing, maturing, experiencing and exploring life with God as His apprentices.
With years of experience in ministry, leadership, and coaching, I’m really excited to help ministry leaders, those interested in ministry, and even people who are taking the next faith step in their lives, navigate the challenges we all encounter along the way. My ideal day includes a chat or two with friends or leaders needing help to unlock a block, find a way to overcome an obstacle, connect a behavior to an outcome, or deepen our awareness of God’s love and guidance in their lives. That is all I really want to do and I would love to hear from you and help you if you are open to it. For a couple decades I’ve been involved in leadership and innovation in the non-profit world, where budgets are tight, traditions are cherished, and progress can feel slow, so I can offer insights helpful to most leadership situations today.
Recently, Trish and I (Trish is my wife of over 30 years!) have been leading a spiritual small group in a house church setting in Colorado Springs, which has increased my desire to see good teaching, intimate community, deeper Bible study, and growing disciples. Being in Colorado has allowed me to enjoy some of the best fly fishing the world has to offer, enjoy God’s creation in the outdoors, and cheer on God’s favorite football team, the Denver Broncos! (If he weren’t a fan, he wouldn’t make sunsets in Broncos’ colors lol.) During the time in the house church, we have also developed a strong desire to see every Christ follower build a stronger foundation of faith, a closer connection to Jesus, and deeper relationships with other believers through daily rhythms of abiding at His workbench.
